Or–The Times of the Signs
Many people today sense that something is shifting in our world. Headlines feel heavier, nations seem more unsettled, and long‑held moral foundations are being questioned or overturned. For someone who is searching, it can raise an honest question: Is there any meaning behind all of this?
The Bible teaches that history is not random. God has a plan, and He has revealed certain signs that would mark the season leading up to the return of Jesus Christ. These signs are not meant to frighten believers, but to awaken us, steady us, and remind us that God is moving history toward His promised redemption.
Why Christians Pay Attention to the Times
Jesus encouraged His followers to stay spiritually alert—to “discern the signs of the times” just as we recognize the change of seasons (Matthew 24:32–35). Not to speculate or panic, but to stay awake to what God is doing.
When we look at our world today, several developments echo what Scripture said would take shape in the last days.
1. Shifting Global Alliances
The prophet Ezekiel described a future military alliance involving nations from the north and Middle East—most notably Russia, Iran, and Turkey (Ezekiel 38–39). For centuries, these nations had little meaningful partnership. Yet in recent years, their cooperation—military, political, and economic—has grown in ways that mirror Ezekiel’s description.
This doesn’t mean we set dates or make predictions. It simply means the Bible spoke of patterns long before they appeared on the world stage.
2. Rising Unrest and Ethnic Tension
Jesus said that the last days would include “wars and rumors of wars,” along with ethnos rising against ethnos (Matthew 24:6–7). The Greek word ethnos, often translated “nation,” refers not only to countries but to ethnic groups, cultures, and people‑groups in conflict with one another.
We see this reflected today in:
• deepening ethnic and cultural divisions
• widespread civil unrest
• political and social polarization
• escalating global conflicts
• a growing sense that peace is fragile
These developments don’t prove anything by themselves, but they do mirror the patterns Scripture said would characterize the world as it moves toward a climactic moment in history.
3. A Surge in Antisemitism
The Bible teaches that the Jewish people and the nation of Israel play a central role in God’s redemptive plan. Scripture also warns that hostility toward them would intensify in the last days. The dramatic rise in antisemitism around the world—something many thought would never return on such a scale—is deeply sobering and biblically significant.
4. Moral Confusion and Reversal
Isaiah warned of a time when people would “call evil good and good evil” (Isaiah 5:20). Paul wrote that in the last days, society would drift from truth, embrace confusion, and reject long‑held moral foundations (2 Timothy 3:1–5).
We see this today in:
• the erosion of basic moral clarity
• the celebration of what Scripture calls destructive
• the rejection of God’s design for life, identity, and relationships
• the elevation of self above all else
For many seekers, this moral upheaval is one of the clearest signs that something deeper is happening.
5. A Growing Spiritual Hunger
Interestingly, Scripture also says that in the midst of turmoil, many people will begin searching for truth. That hunger is visible today. People are asking spiritual questions again. They’re sensing that the world’s answers are not enough. They’re looking for something solid, something real, something eternal.
That search is not an accident. It’s God drawing hearts.
What These Signs Mean for You
The purpose of biblical prophecy is not fear—it’s invitation.
God is not trying to overwhelm you with world events. He is calling you to Himself.
Jesus said that when we see these things beginning to happen, we can know that His return is near. Not to panic, but to prepare our hearts. Not to dread, but to hope. Not to hide, but to trust the One who holds history in His hands.
